elicit (v.), illicit (adj.)   
 
The verb elicit means "to draw forth, evoke, or bring out by means of inquiry," as in Her speech elicited a good deal of [favorable comment].

Illicit is an adjective meaning "unlawful, illegal, or impermissible," as in 

They were running an illicit [still] (蒸餾室;釀酒場) back in the hills. 

The only basis for confusion is that their pronunciations in continuous speech are likely to be identical, uh-LIS-it. Careful enunciation (清晰的發音) will make them respectively ee-LIS-it and il-LIS-it.
