The Columbia Guide to Standard American English

anorexia, anorexia nervosa (nn.), anorexic, anorectic (adjs., nn.)

All are Standard.

Anorexia nervosa
is a psychological and physiological disorder primarily of teenaged females: irrational fears of obesity lead them to reduce their food intake radically, causing malnutrition, severe loss of weight, and even death (compare BULIMIA). It is frequently abbreviated anorexia in the media and in nontechnical use.

The noun anorectic means "anyone suffering from loss of appetite or from anorexia nervosa" or "a drug or other agent causing loss of appetite."

The noun anorexic usually means "a person suffering from anorexia nervosa." It almost never is used for a drug or other agent inducing loss of appetite.

The adjectives are synonyms in nearly all respects. Anorectic is the more general, used most often to mean "marked by or causing loss of appetite" but sometimes also referring to someone suffering from anorexia nervosa.

The adjective anorexic usually means "suffering from anorexia nervosa" or, less often, "loss of appetite, or producing loss of appetite." It is the more frequently used and has begun to take on figurative senses, as in Your music is anorexic, nothing but skin and bones.
